Tokio Kuniyoshi

President

OAANY Member since 2008
Born in 1980 and raised in Naha city, Okinawa, currently based in New York. I moved to San Francisco in 2002 and got into the photography world. I started learning from the basics by myself and City College of San Francisco Photography major. After spending 4 years in San Francisco, I relocated to New York to seek possibilities and new opportunities. My roots are all Okinawan, and even though I have spent more than half of my life in the U.S., I will always think and love Okinawa.

Teiko Yonaha Tursi

President Emeritus

OAANY member since 1984
Teiko grew up in Nago, Okinawa, where she graduated from Nago High School in 1960.
Entered Ryukyu International College in 1960 where she majored in English Literature. She went on to study in the United states, graduating from Glassboro State Collage (NJ) in 1962, and obtained Master of Social Work from Widener University, State of PA in 2002.

Mariko Middleton

Co-Vice President

OAANY member since 2019
Mariko is a proud mixed-race Ryukyan-American who is deeply interested in intersections of Indigenous identity, cultural reclamation, decolonization, and revitalization. She joined OAANY officers in May 2024.

Sonoko Niswander

Treasurer

Sonoko joined OAANY in 1992. Sonoko is from Kumejima (久米島出身). More information coming soon.
